What Was the PTV Fee?

Previously, a fixed Rs 35 PTV license fee was added to electricity bills every month, regardless of whether consumers actually watched Pakistan Television (PTV). This charge had been a long-standing concern for many consumers.

Why Was the Fee Removed?

The decision was taken on the Prime Minister’s directive to reduce the financial burden on electricity consumers and simplify electricity billing. The government concluded that collecting a TV license fee through power bills was no longer justified.

What Changes for Consumers?

  • Rs 35 PTV fee is removed
  • Electricity bills are now lower by Rs 35 per month
  • The PTV fee field may still appear on some bills, but the amount will be zero
  • DISCO billing systems were instructed to update immediately via PITC

Does This Apply to HAZECO Consumers?

Yes. Consumers of Hazara Electric Supply Company (HAZECO) will also no longer see the PTV fee charged on their electricity bills from the applicable billing cycle onward.
